The mission of the NFG

The federation is committed to high-quality, reliable complementary and psychosocial care in the Netherlands. The NFG does this by registering therapists and counselors who meet clear quality criteria, and by supporting them in their further professional development. As a professional organization, our professional association acts as a link between healthcare professionals, clients, health insurers, and the government.

Membership with the NFG is an important signal for clients: it shows that a therapist takes quality, training, and careful practice seriously. For therapists themselves, our organization offers guidance in the form of clear training requirements, mandatory training and a professional network of peers.

How the NFG guarantees quality

The federation monitors quality not only at the start of your membership but also afterwards. Through periodic visitation, mandatory continuing education, and a clear complaints procedure, the quality of affiliated therapists remains guaranteed. This ensures that clients know they are in good hands with an NFG-registered therapist, regardless of the field of work they practice.

The history of our organization

What once began as a small professional association for complementary therapists has grown into an established organization with a broad network of registered professionals. Over the years, increasing emphasis has been placed on professionalization: clear training requirements, an official complaints procedure, and structural quality assurance through site visits. This development aligns with the growing demand from clients and health insurers for transparency and quality assurance within complementary care.

This development continues to this day. Regulations such as the Wtza and the Wkkgz impose increasingly clear requirements on healthcare providers, and our organization helps its members to continue complying with these. In this way, the profession continues to professionalize, in the interest of both therapists and their clients.
